Hallie Heaney, President 2011-2012
For the coming year, my vision is to continue to focus on the promotion of biosafety throughout the Midatlantic region, and build on the long legacy at ChABSA of sharing sound scientific and technical expertise with our members. I hope to make meetings more accessible for members who cannot regularly attend dinner meetings, by utilizing technology such as VoIP, webinars, or video archives. As always, I encourage you to provide feedback to council on dinner meeting topics, speakers, and locations and to submit suggestions for improvement. On behalf of CHABSA, I would like to thank you for your continued participation, and I look forward to seeing you all for our dinner meetings in the coming year.
The 2011-2012 Chesapeake Area Biological Safety Association is underway with new and exciting opportunities for our members! I would like to welcome Angela Ragan as our newly elected councilor and congratulate Craig Reed on his new position as President-Elect. I would also like to thank Paul Landon for his service and leadership as 2010-2011 President. Jen Danieley coordinated a very successful 2011 Spring Scientific Symposium in Frederick, Maryland. Of particular note, Karen Byers, the current President of The American Biological Safety Association gave an update on the ongoing educational and organizational efforts of ABSA both nationally and internationally. As our keynote speaker, Dr. Heinz Feldmann presented a fascinating talk on emerging zoonotic diseases and adapting conventional biosafety principles to global situations. It truly is a dynamic and exciting time to be in the field of biological safety!
