The Chesapeake Area Biological Safety Association (ChABSA), is an incorporated, non-profit organization that is an affiliate of the American Biological Safety Association (ABSA). ChABSA was established in 1987 by local area members of ABSA with a similar interest in the safety of research using microorganisms and recombinant DNA.

“Laboratory Safety - What has been forgotten because it was "common knowledge" by experienced workers”

Over the years, many safe practices that "experienced workers" take for granted have fallen by the wayside and without realizing it our younger workers do not recognize the risks.  This talk will highlight many of the former practices that we assume everyone knows but does not.  This talk will be excellent for both those who remember and those who have never heard of these practices.

Bruce Donato is a principal with K&A First Aid and Safety Inc. a provider of  compliance training programs, developer of compliance programs, and facility safety audits.  Mr. Donato is the 2018 president of the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals (AHMP), the Past-President of the AHMP Cyber Chapter and the webmaster of ChABSA.  He has been recognized nationally as an outstanding contributor in the EHS field with the BCSP Award of Excellence, the ACHMM "Friend of the Academy" award, the AHMP Hazardous Materials Professional of the Year, and the AHMP Pete Cook Founders award.  Mr. Donato has a BSE in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and has worked in the chemical, textile, biotech, and construction industries as well as running a TSDF.
