Presentation Title: We know there’s no biosafety pipeline, but can we make one?

 

Dr. Meechan is currently a biosafety consultant, providing guidance and training to a number academic and government institutions regarding safe containment practices.  Prior to retiring from the CDC in 2019, he was the Associate Director for Laboratory Science in the Office of Laboratory Science and Safety.  Dr. Meechan also served as the Director of the Environment, Safety, and Health Compliance Office for CDC. 

 

 

From 1996 to 2010, he served in a variety of positions at Merck and Co., Inc. He has also been an Assistant Professor in Biological Sciences at Northern Illinois University.  Dr. Meechan has an undergraduate degree in Biology and Chemistry from SUNY College at Oswego, New York (1977), a Ph.D. in Radiation Biology from the University of Rochester (1983), and a MPH in Occupational Health and Safety Management from Tulane University (2003).

 

 

He also holds RBP and CBSP certifications from ABSA.  He has served two terms on the ABSA Council as Secretary and one term as President, has served as President of the Mid-Atlantic Biological Safety Association (MABSA) and the Southeast Biological Safety Association (SEBSA).  He has been a member of numerous Federal taskforces and committees.

Pre-Symposium Workshops

The Chesapeake Area Biological Safety Association (ChABSA) is offering this year’s summer workshops and symposium entirely virtually. This year’s offerings include the following 3 workshops:

 

  • June 13th: 8 am- 5 pm “ Gene Editing and Risk Assessment: Application to IBC Review” taught by Jessica McCormick-Ell. LIMITED SEATING-Only 20 seats available. Register early to guarantee your seat!!!

Early Bird Pricing (Though 6/01) $350 for ChABSA members and ABSA affiliates, $400 for non-members, $50 for students.

After 6/01 Pricing is $400 for ChABSA members and ABSA affiliates, $450 for non-members, $150 for students.

 

  • June 14th: 8 am-12 pm “Large Animal Biocontainment” taught by Joseph Kozlovac, David White, and Eilyn Fabregas
